On August 8th, 2025, a gunman fired nearly 500 bullets at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s headquarters in Atlanta, with over 180 hitting 6 buildings. This act of misinformation-fueled violence resulted in the death of a heroic police officer and terrorized public health workers nationwide.

HHS leadership and policymakers have failed to adequately respond to this attack. Therefore, current and former HHS staff have written their own response. 

When a federal agency is under attack, America is under attack. When federal workers are not safe, America is not safe.

We are calling on the people we serve - you, the public - to help us stand up for a safer workplace and a safer nation.
